Terminal Services

I have a server (test server) running terminal services 2K and the new
anti-spyware program. Today I noticed an interesting problem. I had to
remove the print driver for one of my clients that logs in from a remote
location because she was getting a new printer. When she got the printer it
was damaged so she went to reinstall the old one. I put the same driver back
in the TS as before but it would not assign her the local printer when she
logged back in. After many frustrating hours I decided to uninstall the BETA
Anti-SPyware program and it immediatly recognized her printer and set it up
for her on one of the channels.

Is there a conincidence here ya think??

This current beta 1 release of MSAS is not targetted at enterprises
environments. I would preferrably wait until the Enterprise Edition is
available which will support Central Management and Group Policy.

Can you mention the specific printer involved? I've seen some occasional
mention of difficulties with specific printer drivers in these groups.

I haven't taken the time to check any of the issues out because I haven't
had the printers involved--but I've no doubt they are real.

Andre- Interesting. You would think MS wouldnt' have made the BETA for
Windows 2000 then; a very popular NOS.

Bill- The printer in question was a HP LJ 1200. A even more interesting note
is that while she was logging on with the spware program still running the
Event viewer never even noted that she was loging on with a HP and that the
drivers were being loaded. And then as soon as the BETA version was out, it
did see it and note it in the event viewer.

No, it is for Windows 2000, but not the Server Edition, Microsoft developing
a Enterprise Edition of Microsoft AntiSpyware for Windows 2000 Server.

Luke,

Was this user logged in through terminal services and using printer
redirection?

Yes. I rely on their client RDP session to pass the printer onto the TS
session. Then the TS allows the printer to be used in TS session based on
whether or not I have the proper driver installed (which I do). After that
the GDI interface on the TS handles printing on the virtual channel TS set
up during log-on.

I use TS all the time, and haven't noticed this issue, but I haven't done a
lot of printing lately. I'll try to keep an eye on what's happening. All
the machines I work from and to have Microsoft Antispyware installed.
