terminal server licensing

Here our running config:
1 x w2k server installed with terminal server in application mode
1x w2k server installed with terminal server in application mode + licensing
server
The first w2k server directs via a register value to the second ts server
for licenses.

I bought a third server. This server wil be installed with w2k3 because the
limit colour reproduction in ts sessions.
My question is:
Can I upgrade en export my w2k ts licenses to the new w2k3 server? If yes,
could all desktops connect via rdp to the w2k server and issue a license from
the w2k3 server?
Or do I have to buy new licenses for my w2k3 server?

Thanks for your reply...

Jacco,

A license server that runs Windows Server 2003 supports the following types
of licenses and manages their corresponding tokens associated with Windows
Server 2003 Terminal Server and Windows 2000 Terminal Services:
• Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Device Client Access Licenses. These
licenses are purchased for known devices that connect to a terminal server
running Windows Server 2003.
• Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server User Client Access Licenses. These
licenses are purchased for known users that connect to a terminal server
running Windows Server 2003.
• Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server External Connector Licenses. These
licenses are purchased to allow unlimited connections to a terminal server
running Windows Server 2003 by external users (for example, business
partners). It is important to note that there is currently no support for
installing External Connector tokens on a license server.
• Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client Access Licenses. These licenses are
purchased for known devices that connect to a terminal server running Windows
2000.
• Windows 2000 Terminal Services Internet Connector Licenses. These licenses
are purchased to allow up to 200 simultaneous anonymous connections to a
terminal server running Windows 2000 by non-employees across the Internet.

Just call the Clearinghouse at 888-571-2048 about reactivating the CAL's on
the 2003 Licensing Server. Here's a document with more info.:

Dear Spencer,

Thanks for your reply.
I read the document you advised but I still have a question:
Does it mean that when I want to upgrade all of my servers to w2k3, I'll
have to buy new TS 2003 CAL's? Isn't there any way to upgrade my excisiting
w2k TS CAL's to w2k3??
Please advise me...
Thanks..

Jacco,

You should be able to use your 2000 Terminal Services CALs on your Windows
2003 Terminal Services Licensing Server, provided that you have an additional
Windows 2000 Terminal Server in the environment to use the 2000 CALs. For
help on setting this up, just call the Microsoft Terminal Services
Clearinghouse. As for upgrading, there are not currently any upgrades for
server products, including TS CALs. You would have to pay full price for new
ones. I hope this helps!
