terminal server licensing and CAL's

B

Bill Evans

We have a multiple terminal server environment in various
subnets. The licensing and CAL's are on one of the
servers. Periodically the other servers will not allow
users to connect to the terminal servers outside of the
licensing server subnet. Does each server have to be a
licensing & CAL server or is there a way to fix this
problem.

Is there anything in the EventLog on the TS when it refuses
connections?

One TS Licensing server should be enough for normal operations.
You don't mention your OS or domain type, but assuming you run W2K
and have an AD domain, then the LS must be running on one of your
Domain Controllers. If Terminal Servers on different subnets
cannot locate the LS, you can hardcode the adress of the LS into
the registry of the TS.

Details about LS discovery and location can be found in the
Windows 2000 Terminal Services Licensing White paper

tslicensing.asp

If this doesn't help, or you have a different environment, please
repost with more details.
