Termal Server BSOD when connecting

I work in a datacenter and just loaded the October round of MS patches to my
Windows 2000 servers. The funny thing is when I connect (I don't even get
the logon screen) to one via the remote desktop the server immediately
crashes with a "Kernal_mode_exception..." or something close to that. This
has happened randomly to about 25% of our servers ranging from Citrix servers
in "Application Mode" to other general purpose servers in "Remote
Administration Mode".
I have search all over creation and can't find anything like I'm experiencing.

Thanks for the help, but I don't believe this is our problem. This KB
references Rdpdd.dll as the reason for the crash. We have this same issue
with our Citrix servers which have RPD disabled (clients use ICA to connect).

This is killing me becuase I have vanilla boxes crashing. (For instance SQL
7, windows 2000 SP3 and Symantec Antivirus Corp. addition - and NOTHING else,
Running on HP LC 2000 servers with HP RIAD cards.).

Thanks you in advance for your help!

OK, so what you say is that the problem has probably nothing to do
with Terminal Services, right?

Have you checked the troubleshooting tips for this STOP error?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-
us/ddtools/hh/ddtools/BCCodes_147f8212-edad-456e-a315-

I would definitively uninstall Symantec, for troubleshooting
purposes. Anti-virus programs are no trivial applications, it
would be my first suspect.

Sorry, I should have clarified that when I try to use Terminal Services to
manage these boxes they immediatly crash.
You were correct in your thinking that Symantec Anitvirus was the culprit.
I upgrated to the newest version (9.x) and the problem went away! I'm still
miffed about what exactly caused theses boxes to crash when establishing a TS
session (We are running 8.x all over the comany with no issues). Thats for
the help Vera!
