Temporary Internet Folder

In Documents & Settings/(me)/Local Settings/Temporary Internet
Files, I right click properties and it shows me that the capacity is
399Mb but it is empty as far as I can see.
Folder properties are set to show hidden System Files etc, so I'm
wondering where these actually reside? A windows cleaner will find
and delete these but I'm just curious to know where they are.

Start | Run | Paste this in the box:

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Click OK.

You do not need to see 'em to get rid of 'em.

To delete *all* of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box: Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

Note: If you do NOT select the Delete all offline content box, not
everything will be cleaned out.

Content.IE5 is a hidden system folder.

Go to Start -> Run and enter the following in the Open box.

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\content.IE5

Hit the Ctrl + A keys.
Hit the Alt + F key.
Hit the R key.

Is the size of all these files and folders around 399 MB?

Even if you went to Folder Options and set it up to show all
hidden and system files, your Content.IE5 folder will remain
hidden. You can, however, access other users copy of this
folder.

If you're using IE6, you need to check off "Delete all offline
content" when asked in order to delete the contents of this
folder. Keep in mind that the Index.dat file cannot be easily
deleted.

If you're looking for more information on this subject either
do a Google search for Content.IE5 or post your questions to
the appropriate Internet Explorer newsgroup.

Good luck

I have never had a problem of accessing Content.IE5. You have to sneak up
on it.

If you use the Run command it doesn't matter how you have your settings for
Hidden or System files or folders.

I am the only user on my machine and
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
opens my Content.IE5 folder.

So does %tmp% and then navigating to Content.IE5.

You can also access Content.IE5 from disk Cleanup...
Start | Run | Type: cleanmgr | Click OK |
Highlight Temporary Internet Files | Click the View Files button

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.MSO
opens Content.MSO.
