Temporary Internet Files

I have 2 users set up on my computer. I am the admin. and I have a "Kids"
limited account for the kids. The question: Why does the kids Temporary IE
folder have a subfolder named Content.IE5? This folder also contains
subfolders that have names like G12TYS23.
No real problems,just courious.

All of what you mentioned is by design and normal. In IE, Tools, Internet
Options, second section down....Temporary Internet Files, you can click on
the Delete button, another window will popup....put a check in the delete
offline content box, OK or Yes to confirm. Check your Temp folder again and
you will see that most of the 'cryptic' named files are gone. These should
be cleaned out rather often anyway.

I have been using Crap Cleaner, without any problems. (Free from
www.ccleaner.com ) This will clean out the Temp folder along with the
index.dat files. Just wanted to get your opinion (highly respected), Mr.
Bear.

Once installed, run CCleaner & select the Windows tab.

Select ONLY the options illustrated in the following illustration (Not all
options available in Win9x; Nothing should be checked in Application tab):

Next: click Options > click Advanced

Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs", click Ok

Then return to the main window & click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit.

What DMJohnson didn't realize is that *BOTH* accounts -- Admin and Kids
-- each have their own separate Content.IE5 folders. Depending on how
the "limited" kids account was set up, I'm guessing that if s/he logs
on as "Kids", DMJ will see the admin's Content.IE5 folder. The folder
is hidden only from your own logon, but not from other users'.

Also, note that the randomly-named subfolders of Content.IE5 contain a
record of everything viewed online; thus if you're so inclined, by
logging on as Admin you have the capability of seeing exactly what the
Kids have been looking at -- and vice versa.

As an aside, I think it's confusing to refer to the TIF (Temporary
Internet Files) folder as the "Temp" folder. They are two entirely
different things, unfortunately named similarly by Microsoft.
