Temporary internet files won't delete

I can delete my cookies just fine, but when I try to delete my temporary internet files, the window doesn't respond and has to close. I've tried deleting them from the file folder, but none of the files end up in the recycle bin after I delete them. Why is this happening, and is there any way I can fix it?

Greetings,

Well, it usually takes about 5 mintues to remove the temporary internet
files. I usually just leave my computer on for 10mintues. As soon as I come
it's ready.

*NB* It IE isn't responding just be patient and wait a few extra mintues*

Thanks and best of luck!

I have the same problem with XP Pro - I can click on delete temp internet files and wait and wait - I've left it "deleting" for a couple of hours - it just stops responding.

This has been bugging me for months. What the hell is wrong with it, all I want to do is empty my Temporary Internet folder.

FYI - for both Lauren and John - the larger your IE cache, the more
your surf, the fuller it gets - I've seen IE's cache get up to filling
almost a full 120GB harddrive - it took a while. Think about it, it
took several hours, days, weeks, months, even years for those files to
get into your cache, it might take several hours/days to eliminate
them all. Suggestion: reduce your cache down to around 40-100MB,
they'll cleanout in a snap then.

Hi, thanks for advice, but I've already set my cache to 100Mb and now down to 30Mb - still have same problem "delete temporary internet files" - not responding

John

Hi again,
well nothing worked, deleting files still "not responding" but I think I have a fix for it.

I was able to delete temporay Internet files after I downloaded and installed SP3 for Microsoft Office XP - don't know why or what it has to do with internet files, but it works.

I was talking to someone the other day and they had the same problem, so I told them about Office XP SP3 - they phoned me the next day saying they had downloaded SP3 and yes it fixed the problem with deleting the temp internet files on their computer too ??? :-)

Windows, IE and MS Office keeps a cache of temporary files that is hidden
from Windows Explorer.
MS Office uses >>>
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.MSO

Thanks,
that's probably the bit that was causing the problem, and would explain why SP3 for Office XP fixed the "delete temporary internet files" problem.

John
