Temporary Internet Files Folder

D

Dana

I need some help Please!!!. When I run DiskDfrg it
finishes by stating some files couldnt be modified in the
\Document and Settings\name\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files\Content.IE5\SZUNWNYX\Images[1]
The problem here is this.
1. Even when I have the folder options set to Show all
hidden and system files, there is no other folders showing
up in the Temporary Internet Files folder.
2. When I delete the standard files in there, re-run
diskdfrg, it still shows those folders and files there.
3. If highlight the Temp Internet Files Folder and hit
properties it says there are 35 files at 32megs in that
folder. Yet nothing shows.

Can anyone help in this matter. Thanks very much in
advance.

Try running sfc /purgecache from run a black window will
come up and flash away. that should take care of it. i.e
it shall be deleted its a junk and u dont need it
anyways

SFC /purgecache only removes the contents of Dllcache.
It has no affect on the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Also, in most cases the Advanced option of IE to "Empty
Internet Cache when Browser is Closed" will self-maintain
the cache, emptying it each time IE is closed.

You cannot see the Content.IE5 in your own account as it is a system folder,
and deleting temporary internet files through IE6 does not empty this
folder.

Here is the workaround.

Make another Administrator account on your computer.
Close down your normal account and start the new account.
Navigate to the Content.ie5 folder of your original account and delete it.
IE6 will remake a new empty folder when you next start it.
Close down new account and return to old account.

Repeat this procedure every few months to keep temporary files in check.

Best Wishes.

BTW, Microsoft have another workaround but it is more complicated - of
course.

Oh I forgot, clearing out the IE5 folder will remove all of those fancy
icons from your Favourites (sic).

Yes, you can see Content.IE5.

You probably have to have Hidden files and folders set to display this.

Start | Run | Type: %TEMP% | OK |
Click the Folders button to show the tree view in
the left hand pane | Click the [+] Temporary Internet Files |
Click the [+] Content.IE5 | Click any of the random named folders

To display Hidden files and folders

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Folder Options | View tab
Check:
Display the contents of system folders
Show hidden files and folders
UNCheck:
Hide protected operating system files
Apply | OK

[[Hidden files and folders will appear dimmed to indicate they are not
typical items.]]
=============

Or....

Start | Run | Type: cleanmgr | OK |
Highlight: Temporary Internet Files | View Files button |
Opens...
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5
==========

Yes, you can delete the contents of Content.IE5.
No workaround needed.

1) Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools
2) Click on Internet Options
3) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files {This clears the folder seen when you...
IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab | Settings button | View Files
button |
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHerel\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files}
5) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
{Yes, one more time}
6) Check the box Delete all offline content {this one clears out Content.IE5
C:\DOCUME~1\WESLEY~1.VOG\LOCALS~1\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5}
7) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files

Well Wes, I have always said that with Microsoft-ware you can find at least
5 different ways of doing the same thing!

3 -1 to you for deleting IE5 temp internet files! (Worse than the England -
France result).
Just one other method to be found to reach the 5!

At least we have sorted out Dana's problem.
