Can someone tell me where Vista stores temporary files? I'm assuming this
folder should be periodically cleaned up like I do with XP, especially after
crashes.

The %TEMP% and %TMP% veriables are set to:

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp

The best way to clean out these directories is to run the Disk Cleanup tool.
Either choose "Disk Cleanup" from the Start Menu, or run "cleanmgr.exe" from
a command prompt. You can also schedule Disk Cleanup to run automatically on
a regular basis. For steps to configure this, go to Start, Help and Support,
and search on "Disk Cleanup".

Hope it helps,

There are multiple temp folders based upon how many accounts you have set up
on the computer. Each user has a temp account as per:

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp

You also have C:\Windows\Temp which must be cleared occasionally.
