Templates not showing up

Guest

Hi, I downloaded a APA format template and I saved it in my Office dictorery
under templates/1033. When I select New, and look under the template, my
template doesnt show up there. You know where you have the different tabs,
General,Reports,ect... I would really like to get a apa template for my
school reports. I notice it is saved in the folder 1033 as a document not as
a template. I tried to change the suffix but cant figure out how . Any help
is appreciated.

The first thing I would do is double check that Word is pointing to the right
folder. Open Word, click on TOOLS, OPTIONS, FILE LOCATIONS. Double click on
the words WORKGROUP TEMPLATES. A new window opens. Where it says LOOK IN
is where your templates are stored. Click on the drop-down arrow to see how
to get to the folder where your templates are located. Make sure your
template is in that folder. If it's in the right folder, it'll show up.

Feel free to email me back if you'd like at (e-mail address removed)

This is the wrong place for you to store templates. Look under Tools >
Options > File Locations for the location of your user or workgroup
templates folders. Either of those will show up under File > New. folder
1033 is only for templates installed with Word, not for ones that you make.
You should _not_ point at folder 1033 as your user templates folder. This
would cause you problems.

For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog,
and locations of templates folders see

As others have told you, you have saved your template in the folder MS
reserves for the templates it ships with Word. User templates are saved in a
different folder, the path to which is listed on the File Locations tab of
Tools | Options. If you want your template to appear on one of the existing
tabs, you need to create a subfolder of that folder with the same name as
the label on that tab. See the appropriate one(s) of the following articles:

Open your doc file in Word. Use File > Save As.
Change the file type to template. You will automatically be in your user
templates folder.

These folders are system folders in recent versions of Windows and are
hidden by default when you try to reach them from the top. To see them in
Windows, you need to change your folder view options.

You apparently changed your user templates folder location to this. Change
it to a different location, possibly a folder in My Documents.

I went and did a search on the web, nothing was working and I found this set
of instructions and it work.

You don't have to use the Templates folder. You can set your own location
with Tools | Options | File Locations . Click on the Workgroup templates
line and then the Modify button. Enter the path to the location you've
chosen. Now, when the New dialog box appears, templates from this location
will appear on the General tab.

Don't know why I had to do it under workgroup, but my template shows up on
my general tab now

Thanks for all the help

You can put it in either the workgroup or the user templates folder. You had
set your user templates folder to be 1033 which was a problem.
