I have a template on a network share and use a macro to go find the template
and create a new document. How many users can access this template at one
time?

Thanks

Many users can be using the template at the same time so long as they are
not opening the template but simply using it to create a new document. They
won't be able to save styles or AutoText back to it when it is in use, but I
doubt you want them to be able to do this anyway. Consider putting the
template in the folder designated as the workgroup templates folder rather
than using a macro. For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on
the file new dialog, and locations of templates folders see
http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.

If you need a macro, look at http://addbalance.com/word/templatesmenu.htm
for some ideas on how to implement it.

Note, if someone has a document based on your template open, you will not be
able to edit the template. If this will be a problem for you, you might well
want to distribute your workgroup templates to each computer (using the user
login scripts). This would have the added advantage of making your workgroup
templates available to disconnected laptops.
