TEMP FOLDER

Running Vista Home Prem 32 Bit.

Came across This Folder....C:\USERS\HOME\AppaData\Local\Temp

When you run a Disk Clean-up it does not delete the Folders and Files in
this Temp Folder. Can the Folders and Files be safely deleted
manually...that is, it won't adversely impact anything?

CCleaner will look there and delete what is allowed.

Not on it's own it won't. You have to tell it to, using advanced
settings.

As for what is allowed, CCleaner doesn't make that decision, the OS
does. Anything that's in use won't be deleted.

I have "never" had to set up the file delete from this folder using the
advanced settings. CCleaner just touches it automatically.

The only advanced setting I change is to remove the check from the box that
say to hold the files for 48 hours before deleting. This is global across
all folders that are included in the CCleaner search for deleteable files.

My, it's odd how our experiences have differed so much. Perhaps the
requirement was for an older version of CCleaner and a more recent
version doesn't require it. Every new installation of CCleaner keeps
all the settings from previous installations.

I've gone through a bazillion updates to CCleaner since I first HAD to
setup that directory in the advanced settings area (because of all the
crap I found in that directory with an AgenRansack search after many
cleanings).

I'll uncheck the Custom Files and Folders and see if the version
that's installed now keeps that directory clean on its own.

Running CCleaner 2.13...fairly new version. Checked Advance Settings....the
don't delete if less than 48 hours was checked...I left it checked. Ran
CCleaner...it did not touch any files in the Folder...and of the 490 files in
the Folder....475 were older than 48 hours. Now I do see where you can ADD a
Folder......

I take it the folder I have referred to
C:\USERS\HOME\APPADATA\Local\Temp....holds files that are created during
installations of software that the software just leads behind and are of no
value...thus, they can be deleted? One responder wrote, if I delete the
files manually, Windows won't delete a file In Use.... However , if the
software is not running that dumped these files at the time of deletion, that
wouldn't be so.

I unchecked it... looked in that directory this morning for garbage
(there was some), ran CCleaner and it took care of all of it. So one
of the versions that I installed after including that directory in my
custom settings has been written to empty that directory.

As I wrote, I am running CCleaner 2.13. I looked for the setting.... Custom
Files and Folders ...but saw nothing like that in my version. I looked in
Tools\Options and Advanced Settings. I did see were I could manually enter
the Folder....

Have I missed something? You seem to be saying you did not have to manually
the Folder...and CCleaner cleaned the Folder. I was referred to this Link

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/104637-temporary-files-temp-folder.html

This Link makes it clear these files can be deleted, it also refers to
CCleaner....but again, my version isn't touching this folder.

In CCleaner, in OPTIONS, choose INCLUDE and you can define folders you
want CCleaner to monitor and clean. In the past, I had a couple of
folders that CCleaner didn't watch (back a year or more). I included
those and then checked Custom Files and Folders so that the ones I
included would get cleaned.

AGAIN... I did that long ago and it is apparent that one of the
updates (it's now at 2.14 FYI) was written to include the directory
we've been discussing. Since updates don't change user settings, I
never noticed.

And no, Brink, I wasn't talking about the "older than 48 hours" box.
I've never had that ticked because it's unnecessary.
