Temp Folder for cds to be burnt

B

B.W.

A friend of mine tells me she keeps getting a message saying she has files
to burn to a CD.

She wants to stop this message appearing and I thought she would need to
delete the files from the temp folder first of all.

She also tells me she was afraid to delete these files when the message
appears as she may delete the folder also.

Where does Windows XP store these files? Can she safely say yes to delete
and would she still retain those folders?

TIA BW

XP Default is to a temporary folder in your local profile.

CD/DVD burning software such a Roxio allows the use
to change the location to for instance a second hard disk
to increase performance.

Any files located in a Temp folder are safe to delete.

If she is afraid to delete them have her copies these files
from the temp folder to a new folder (name it: MyCDTempFiles)
Once the file have been copied/backed up to the new folder
she can then delete the files in her Temp folder.

Without knowing the specific files she was try to burn to one
or more CDs one thing she can try is after she has copied
the files to the backup folder (MtCDTempFiles) is to use
Windows search to locate all locations of a specific file
she was try to or has burned to a CD. This way she can
tell if the backup folder contains a redundant set of files.

Adding to JS's reply the one thing left out - what you asked for, the actual
location of this temp folder, which is by default:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\CD Burning

Have your friend look there and check that its contents are files that she
has somewhere else. If so, she may delete them with impunity.

It's a hidden folder, so she may need to temporarily enable it to be seen.
This is done in Windows Explorer:

"Tools" in the menu > Folder Options > the "View" tab > put the dot in "Show
hidden files and folders" > OK.

Thanks I will pass that advice on. BW

Hi B. W. my name is Kaja and I think I can help. Temp files can be deleted
safely although in this case the message might persist until the following is
done. Probably on the bottom a bubble will pop up telling your friend she
has files ready to be written to the CD click here to see these files.
Assuming you are using Windows for this. Click it, the bubble that is and a
window will pop up showing an icon for the files to be burned. Then go to
that icon of the files to be written. It should have an arrow downward
pictured showing that they are ready to be written. Go to edit or organize
at the top menu and hit select all. This selects the files. Then hit the
delte key and confirm delete. Now the files that were to be burned are
deleted. Let me know if this helps so I can improve my services.
Best Regards,
Kaja
