Telnet?

Port 23 telnet shows open on my system. I run Remote Desktop occasionally
so I can connect from my office and I run a webserver occasionally to test
web pages I build. I don't use any programs through the Telnet interface or
any terminal server stuff. Can I safely disable Telnet and if so how?
Using XP pro.

Thanks
Jerry

What kind of firewall are you using, and what ports are open inbound? You
only need 3389 for RD, and 80 and/or 443 for http/https.

My remote desktop works fine so no problem there. When I do a port scan on
grc.com it shows port 23 open. I've set the telnet service to manual and
I've set ZoneAlarm Pro to block port 23, UDP and TCP but it still shows open
on the scan.

Thanks for the quick reply. Suggestions?
