Telephone number Input mask displaying in form control

I am designing an application for a client using his Access 2003 on his
computer. I have a problem with the input mask for telephone numbers. The
input mask is visible in the table. When I click into the field it disappears
but when I click away it is back. It also shows up in the Form control - same
thing, click in and it is gone, click away and it is back. I have some
telephone fields where it does not appear on the form. I have examined all of
the properties and they are identical comparing the form control where the
input mask is visible and the one where it is not. Is there something I can
do to make the input mask not be visible in the form field? Any help would be
gratefully appreciated.

Thank you, Ling, for replying. I have always chosen to save the value as it
appears in the input mask. I interpreted that to mean that if my input mask
was (000) 000-0000 it would save (781) 593-6841 as opposed to 7815936841.
What it is showing is (000) 000-0000(781) 593-6841. I have never seen this
before in my tables or forms.

Was my understanding correct? I am puzzled because there are fields in the
table where the input mask is displayed prior to the number but the control
in the form displays only the correctly formatted number.

I am wondering if part of this might be related to their not keeping their
updates up to date. I have been using Access for 12 years and have never
encountered this before. Is there a way I can fix it?

I solved it myself. The solution is to select the tab control and then use
the toolbox to drag on an unbounded control. Then one sets the data source to
the telephone field in the table. Once that is done, only the telephone
number shows in the control and not the input mask with the phone number.
