Hi,
Does anyone have the telephone number for the Activation Center? I want to
inquire about up-grading with my XP Pro. on a new computer with XP Home. I
have used my copy only once and am losing my C:\ drive.
TIA,
Carol S.

The activation phone number depends on where you live and can be found by
going to the activate window

Thank you for your promptness. I did go to Activate on my computer and was
simply told that I was activated and to Exit. Am I misunderstanding you
here? I do not want to up-grade the new computer only to find that it is not
possible.
Thanks again,
Carol S.

Ok, what i should of said is to goto the activate window, then click on the
activate by phone button. On the window that pops up there should be a list
of countries, choose yours and then there should be an activation center
phone number for your country on the screen

Thanks, Jon! I did finally discover the number of my MS Regional Office but
I have not tried to use it. Will follow through with your links.
Carol S.

If the version of XP Pro you are currently using is an OEM version, it
cannot be moved to a new computer as it is tied to the original hardware.
In fact, if it was provided by the manufacturer of the computer, it likely
is BIOS locked and wouldn't install on the new system. If your version of
XP Pro is a retail version, one you purchased at retail and not provided by
a system manufacturer, assuming you didn't purchase a retail OEM version, it
can be installed on the new computer as long as it is removed from the
previous computer.

You may be required to make a phone call during the activation process.
Just tell the operator this was on your old computer and you've removed it
from the system and wish to install it on your new computer.
