technical question regarding data removal

Greetings,
I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this question, if
not, perhaps you could direct me to where I might ask it.

I'm trying to find out if there would be something similar to a
DOS footprint for every file in on a windows xp machine. If one
installed what essentially is a DOS program that runs in windows,
a database program called Alpha4, restored a database from CD,
then uninstalled the program, ran a regcleaner program and then
ran eraser on the entire unused space, could I still find any
evidence or trace of the data that was copied from CD to the
machine?

It depends entirely on the application, not on Windows.
Some applications have a habit of leaving traces all over
the place and in many registry keys. Uninstallers and registry
cleaners may or may not remove them all. If the FBI is after
you then you should format the disk and start a new Windows
installation.

Nope, not the FBI, or anyone like them. I was just wondering if
I could find a place to tell me where all to look to see if
specific data had been installed, then removed.

If the hard disk wasn't DOD wipe 7.0 Std ,there are Applacation out there
that can read the disk even tho it was written over. I am not sure if this
Applcation is common for general public,but they are companys (you pay) that
can lift the layer. Xp has so little dos in it, not sure if Dos 6.1 could
help you.

I appreciate your help. I was thinking there might be something
like a log file that listed every instance of a CD ROM transfer
to the hardrive or something. Probably not worth the effort.
