If you're setting a static IP in network settings it should be set outside
of the DHCP range set in the router. If the routers IP range is set to
start at 192.168.x.100 and set to 50 addresses then configure the static IP
to be outside of the range, preferably under 192.168.x.100 or if you want
above 192.168.x.150.
Type in the Subnet address your network uses, most likely 255.255.255.0.
Type in the Gateway IP which is your routers IP, 192.168.x.1.
Configure the DNS for the ones used by the router, you can find these via
Right click My Network Places > Right click Local Area Connection > click
Status > Support tab > Details button.
Or click Start > Run, type in: cmd and press Enter or click Ok.
At the cmd prompt type in and press Enter:
ipconfig /all **Note the space between ipconfig and /all**
If that fails to provide the DNS addresses look in the routers web based
configuration.
Once you have the statip IP and DNS configured click the Advanced button.
Under IP Settings tab you should see your static IP, the Gateway IP and the
Automatic Metric box selected.
Under the DNS tab you should see the DNS addresses you assigned, both Append
Primary..... Append Parent..... and Register this.... selected.
Under the WINS tab if Enable LMHOSTS Lookup is selected you can unselect it
unless you use an LMHOSTS file. In the NetBIOS Setting section, Default will
be selected. If your connection still fails you may need to change it to
Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
Apply > Ok out of network properties and test your connection.
If you still have problems see if something here helps:
