ipconfig:
An internal error occurred: The request is not
supported.
Additional Information: Unable to query host name.

If you are using an Ethernet connection, have you tried the following:

In Device Manager {right click on My Computer, select Properties and the
Hardware tab}, find your Ethernet hardware and uninstall. Reboot and allow
Windows XP to find and install the Ethernet hardware. This may take a few
minutes. So wait until Windows XP displays the found hardware and installed
hardware messages.

.

I have tried several different devices.

This is purly a TCP/IP issue, all networking devices work
with other protocols.

I made the suggestion because I use a Ethernet connection to a self hosted
satellite modem. TCP/IP were not working in the Local Area Network. The
Local Area Network repair function returned an TCP/IP error message. While
Device Manager indicated that the Ethernet hardware was working normally,
uninstall/reinstall corrected what was apparently a corrupt driver.

Sorry, it did not work for you.

rerun the network setup wizzard, in the control panel | network folder.
it will reset the reg and reinstall the protocol layers.

alos, try googleing on "XP TCP Reset", as I recall there is another
command in XP that totally resets the TCP configuration parameters.

I wish it did reset and reinstall them, but it don't!

The only command I have been able to find to reset XP's
TCP/IP stack is with netsh, netsh int ip reset reset.log

If you know of another I'd sure be interested in finding
it.

I have not done that exact "XP TCP Reset" search but I
have searched heavily and you can bet I'm on the way to
try yours... :)

Thanks for your input.

I thought there was a way to reset the configuration for TCP (the values
stored in the registry) using the "netsh" command. Doesn't:

netsh int ip reset

reset the configuration to the install-time defaults? When I run "netsh int
ip /?", the description for the reset command is, "Resets TCP/IP and related
components to a clean state."

A little search at http://support.microsoft.com/ for Windows XP on "netsh
int ip" turned up:

How to Reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP

Try this:
Open Control Panel and Network Connections. Double click your local area
connection to open the status window. Click the Support tab then click
repair.

IE 7 cannot access websites in Vista 32 bit OS. Steps did.....

1. Allowed HTTP with port 80 enabled in Firewall as port 80 was used by "Skype". I had to disable the application in the firewall.
2. To be in the safe side, I also rolled back the IE 8 to 7 - still didnt work.
3. Reset the IE to the manufacturer's settings (From the Advanced tab).
4. Checked if there is any virus / malware - none found.
5. Also tried to connect the cable for the internet from the modem to another computer - It can connect to Internet using Internet Explorer without any issues.
6. I was also trying to update the Hotmail-Messenger to check if it can download the program & it can download the application.
7. Did winsock reset...didnt work as well.

Do I have to uninstall & reinstall the NIC......
any suggestions...pls let me know.
