Tasks don't display in taskbar button area

I installed a new software (turbo tax) last week and since then my currently
running programs will not display in the taskbar button area. If I close the
quick launch toolbar, the entire toolbar disappears (sorta like the hide
toolbar effect, but it will not float back on top). I have to select the
toolbar properties and say lock to toolbar for it to come back full size.
However, this does not get me back my icons. To switch between apps, I must
either invoke task manager or use alt-tab to toggle between the applications.
I was one of the post to go to a website and download registry fixes to
restore the taskbar to its original state (Restore Taskbar to default
settings (Line 99)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm. This is in the post Taskbar
Applications Button Sizing posted 10/24/2004). I did this, installed the
registry fix (windows XP home edition), and rebooted. No change.

Can you offer a registry fix so that I have this option restored?

Same as always, control panel. add/remove app.
That's the problem. It isn't listed in add/remove apps, nor is there an
uninstall option, nor can I find the folder I selected yet I know I
installed it!
I've looked in the registry for Taskbar* but no trace. That might be
because I'm not looking in the right place. Would it be listed other
than by Taskbar? Or, might it be a VB script?

download it again
Well that explains why there is no uninstall. It doesn't install, but
just runs the .exe. How do I undo any changes it made?

Thanks. I just did the download and I've got my toolbar button area back.
All the other toolbars are working as well. Thanks so much.

this helped me also. It looks like this is a fairly common problem. What's
the deal?
