TaskManager missing from System Tray

I've recently got a new PC for work, with XP Pro. Its running XP Pro with
service pack 2.

The problem I have is that task manager won't appear in the system tray. Its
not that it is hidden as inactive, its flagged as "Always show", but it just
doesn't apear in the system tray at all. Sometimes if I shut taskmgr down
and restart it then it does go in the system tray, but mostly not.

I don't have this problem with my pc at home, so I assume its something
specic to my pc here. I really like the busy/idle indicator that
task-manager gives. Any ideas?

Are you using the Classic Start Menu? There is a bug with task manager and
this configuration. I get it to show up about 1 in 10 logins with this
configuration. Microsoft is apparently aware of the problem but no known fix
that I'm aware of.

Interesting Bob.

No, I'm not using the classic start menu (whist I hated the new look
initially I'm getting comfortable with it now). However, the "getting it to
show up about 1 in 10 logins" does sound about right for what I'm
experiencing.

When I next logon and it doesn't appear I'll try toggling the start menu
appearance and see if it makes any difference.
