Please help: my kids hit some keys, now I have absolutely
empty desktop - neither taskbar nor any icons. After
loading I can hit Ctrl, Alt, Del and have task manager,
which helps to work a little. How can I get taskbar
back?
Maybe they just hid the taskbar. Try pressing Ctrl+Esc (or the Windows key)
to pop up the Start menu. Right click the Start button and select
Properties. On the Taskbar page, add a check next to "Keep taskbar on top"
and, if present, remove the check next to "Auto-hide."
If the taskbar didn't reappear along with the start menu in the above
steps, they resized it. In the Properties sheets mentioned above, make sure
that "Lock the Taskbar" is not checked. Then move mouse to the very edge of
the screen, watching for a double arrow to appear. When it shows up, click
and hold the mouse button to grab the upper edge of the taskbar. Drag it
towards the center of the desktop until it's the size that you want. Then
release the mouse button.
