Taskbar locked

My taskbar is locked. I can't launch a quick launch item. If I minimise a
window I can't get it back. I can't open any items in the systray.

I have been into control panel and unlocked and locked and unclocked the
task bar to no avail.

I have done a system restore twice, and I'm now running out of ideas.

I don't know why the locked task bar would prevent the quicklaunch from
working, but, if it is anything like Windows XP, click a blank area of the
task bar, and un-check the "Lock the Task Bar" option.

Locking the task bar in XP prevents you re-sizing it, but in Vista, it may
be different.

Yeah, me too, sumtimes. It just...freezes...and fades to whitish, as if it
was a program. Is it? If I close it, it'll close all desktop icons,
windows, and the taskbar, and I have to (hard) restart.

That freeze is the crash of explorer.exe and that is why it fades and
everything goes away.

As for the OP right click on the taskbar and unlock it. If that doesnt work
do you have the taskbar hidden while working?

I am having the same problem as trevor, And i did every that alex has
recommended but yet it didn't work. I rean virus scan to see if it was that
did a scan disk and defrag. after I did the scan disk and defrag thing worked
then i did a reboot and it went back to locking up again. that was with in a
15 minutes of doing all the above. has anyone figured this out yet??

Sounds like you could have a resource hog running on
bootup. Suspect a virus or trojan like program is the cause.

Wish that was the case but there is no virus as it has been scanned several
times. and it donesn't matter how long the computer is on once it is
minimized it jsut doesn't seem to open them back up and the only way to get
the start menu to open is by pressing the button on the keyboard
