Taskbar Issues after SP2 Install

My taskbar is misbehaving after I installed SP2 on my system.

When I left click an open window item in the taskbar it (the taskbar
item) starts blinking but it does not take me to the open window. If I
left click it again the window minimizes; the third click restores the
window and brings it to the front.

Also, when I right click the item in the taskbar I no longer get the
menu that I did before I installed SP2.

I've tried several of the kellys-korner-xp registry tweaks with no
luck.

Any suggestions?

Nevermind - this looks to have been temporary and is no longer problem
- several reboots later.

Sounds like a focus or "busy" problem. What happens if you click a blank
spot on the taskbar first. This step forces the focus to move to the
taskbar. Then click a button for an open program on the taskbar? Does that
give the desired results (avoiding all of the extra clicking to work with a
program button)? ALT + TAB is a nice keyboard shortcut for switching
between program windows too.

Not sure how you would proceed with this one since I have no idea what
registry tweaks you've tried or not. You could pursue the "busy" angle -
perhaps a misbehaved program running - in an open window or as a background
process. Experiment with different things running to see if you can
eliminate the problem. Start> Run> MSCONFIG> Startup can help you with the
startup (background) programs.

Also, checking the system for virus and other malware is always a good idea
whenever Windows isn't behaving "normally."
