Taskbar is double height - arrows will not adjust

My taskbar suddenly appeared at double height. It is not locked. The double headed arrows appear, and can make it larger, or make it disappear, but they cannot return it to a single row size. This seems to be some kind of bug. Any suggestions?

You probably have another toolbar sitting on the row above the
taskbar.

Right click on a blank portion of the taskbar, and select Toolbars.
Deselect anything there.

Sometimes it's a matter of displayed too many icons in the QuickLaunch
area of the taskbar.

Try narrowing that area by dragging the vertical, silver bumpy divider bar
- to show fewer items in the QL area. Then drag the top border of the
taskbar window downwards. Takes a little juggling, but should eventually
succeed.
