Taskbar flashing in Vista Business

S

Simon Coupland

My taskbar is set to be hidden but regularly flashes onto the screen every
few seconds. This is driving me mad..!

I have seen other people complain of the same issue but haven't found a
definitive way of stopping it.

Is there a way to fix the issue..?

cheers

I had the same issue. It seemed to occur after I updated the Intel
Matrix storage drivers to verison 7.6 from whatever comes stock with
Vista. I recently further updated them to 7.8, and the flashing,
flickering, blinking has pretty much disappeared.

You can find information here, assuming your computer uses a compatible
chipset:

Andrew,

Thanks for the note. However, I dont have the Intel Matrix drivers on my
system, so it cant be that. It looks like an issue caused by a
device/application trriggering an ICON refresh/flash, but I've turned as
much off as I can (tray icons, applications etc) and it still does it.

Even if I turn AERO off, I can still see the START/Windows Logo icon on the
task bar flash.

It must be a fundamental Vista notification issue, but I havent see anyone
with a fix yet.

A semi-fix is to turn on the network icon:
Right-click taskbar, go to Properties. Notification Area tab. Turn on
'Network'. Click Apply and/or OK.
You may need to reboot to get the full effect.

I had the problem too, and stopped it by opening Task Manager and disabling a
small resident program that was triggering it. It's name is "PCM Media
Sharing". It's part of the media stuff on my new Acer. Don't know if you
have it, but I'm convinced that whenever the taskbar problem occurs on any
Vista computer, it's because of some little resident program like that.
