Does anyone have a solution for the following problem on
Windows 2000?

Periodically my taskbar disappears from view completely.
How do I retrieve it?
I thought that running the Task Manager and then selecting
File new task(run) and typing explorer would fix it - but
it didn't?
I know this is a bug but can't find reference on how to
fix it.

Thanks in anticipation.

Run your mouse all the way down to the bottom of the screen,
then pull up your taskbar.

You may want to turn off its AutoHide feature: Right-click it
in any vacant spot, select Properties, then tick/untick the
desired options.

Pegasus - I wish it were that simple :)

The taskbar is not hidden - it just vanishes - it seems to
be consistant with the screen saver kicking in? When I
reactivate the session the taskbar does not reappear.

Checked my settings and Auto hide is definitely not
checked.

Thanks will wait for further responses.

Hi Lydia,

You can try this first.
Start > Run... > "type" CHKDSK /F/R <enter>
answer "Y" for yes and reboot.
This will take 30 minutes to an hour.

If that didn't get it fixed,
Use your current ERD to recover the taskbar.
If you do not have one, you should.
To "repair" the OS, reset the boot order in the BIOS, and...
Pop the Installation CD in the box, and shutdown.
On boot, you should receive the "autostart" screen...
choose install W2000 and then choose "R" for repair at the prompt.
When you get to the prompt to choose you ERD or the Recovery Console,
choose Recovery Console and let it rebuild the files.
Sometimes, depending on each individual case, you can lose part or all data and OS.
Depends on many variables (virus, worm, trojan horses, etc., etc. to prior erroneously
deleted files from applications, etc.)

I've had this happen on my system too, now and then. It's an SP4
installation.

I found that typing ctrl-esc to bring up the start menu always causes the
taskbar to return and behave properly. I've never been able to figure out
what makes it go away.
