Taskbar buttons missing

Try adjusting any optional toolbars you have open, such
as Quick Launch. I would recomend dragging it out of
your taskbar to see if the windows are show underneath.
 
Thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately all it does is hide the taskbar as
though auto-hide is on and still no buttons appear. Any more ideas?
