Taskbar and Start Menu Properties

Cick on Start
Goto Settings
Click on Taskbar and Start Menu
Click on the Taskbar tab
Click on the Customize button

This is the Customize Notifications window.
I apparently have duplicate icon entries and entries whose software I have
deleted.
How can I clear up (delete) unwanted items displayed here.

Thanks

It's all or nothing. You can't remove selected entries from the
Past Items list.

If you want to wipe the slate clean, do the following:
Go to Start -> Run and enter regedit.exe in the Open box.
In the Registry editor, navigate to this registry key,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify

In the right hand pane, right click on "IconStreams" and select
Delete from the menu. Do the same for "PastIconsStream"

Log off from your account and log back on. Check "Customize
Notifications". The only entries should be the current items
displayed in the Notification area.

If you'd rather not mess around with the registry, here's an
automated fix,

Hello Kelley,
I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm having a problem with this newsgroup. I can
respond to messages that others have posted here, but I can't post a new
thread. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or not doing, and I don't know how
to ask the machine. I'm correctly signed in and I'm subscribed to this
Windows XP Basics newsgroup.
My email is (e-mail address removed). Can you help?
Thanks,
Will Moore

The reason you're having such problems is that you are using the web
interface to read this newsgroup--it's the slowest, clunkiest, most
error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor and switch to a newsreader,
such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows.

No you didn't. This is still from the Web interface, where your problem was
probably caused by a third-party toolbar blocking popups.
