taskbar address toolbar

For some unknown reason when I try to launch IE from the taskbar address
toolbar a IE window opens but I get a message that the address cannot be
found. If I open IE and use the internal address bar everything works. Any
ideas?

What exactly are you entering? E.g. URL with protocol prefix?
Which OS? Does your OS support inline AutoComplete for Windows?
