Taskbar Address Toolbar Issue: icons in history keep changing

It seems that icons associated to the history of sites visited using the
address toolbar on the taskbar get corrupted on a regular basis. Sometimes
they revert back after a visit, sometimes all history gets icons from another
application that was recently launched (i.e. all my history gets MS Excel
icons for example.)

Anyone know what's going on?

Since upgrading the IE7 the problem seems to be less apparent.

They're called Favicons. They are stored in Temporary Internet Files (TIF)
and are lost when TIF is cleared or they expire out of TIF. They can be
preserved with this program:
