Task scheduling

I have attempted to schedule disk cleanup, error checking
and defrag through the task scheduler - Windows XP. Every
time the task is scheduled to run, it leaves a message
that the task did not run. Windows XP is new to me as I
have been using Windows 98 for some time. I hope I've
given enough info. Does anyone have any suggestions as to
what I might be doing wrong? Thanks.
