Task Scheduler problems running backup job

Running the latest updates on WinXP Pro and have had a couple of backup jobs
set to run in the 2am - 5am timeframe. At some point (not sure when but
within the last couple of months) those jobs have indicated that they have
not run. I re-entered one of the jobs and task scheduler indicates that it's
last run was "Never" and the Status is "missed". I do not have Hibernation
enabled. I have seen periodic messages that a task could not complete
because the task manager was not running...

From Start>Run type the following

services.msc

and scroll down to the Task Scheduler Service and make sure it has started. If not right click on it and select 'Start'. If it has started, right click on it and select 'Restart' to see if that helps.
