Task Scheduler not working automatically

Hello:

I recently installed NIS 2007 as a free upgrade. Prior to installing, my
task scheduler worked fine. For example, with disk clean up, at 10:00 pm
every evening disk clean up would start up & delete files with no
intervention from me. Now, at 10:00, disk clean up shows up in my task bar.
I have to click on it. It appears & brings up a list of items & prompts me
to click OK to delete. I never had to do this before. I have reset the
schedule time, went into services to see if task scheduler was set to
automatic & tested task scheduler by choosing the calculator.

I even contacted Dell & a tech remotely checked my settings & couldn't find
anything wrong.

Please help.

Sincerely,

John

Hi:

No, I've never used the command you mentioned. All I've ever done was
follow the automated wizard to schedule tasks. Where do I put the command
you mentioned?

John, read this...

How to Automate the Disk Cleanup Tool in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315246

If all you do is schedule cleanmgr.exe, Disk Cleanup will open just waiting
for user input. If you set it up to run with cleanmgr /sagerun:##, it will
actually run and clean whatever presets that you have setup with cleanmgr
/sageset:##.

Here are another couple of articles that may be of some help...

Automate Disk Cleanup using Task Scheduler in Windows XP

Clear the Temporary Internet Files using the Windows XP Disk Cleanup utility
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/clearxptif.htm

Read through all three articles.

But why was it before, all I had to do was follow the wizard & I did not have
to enter any parameters?

Thanks,

John

Beats me. Maybe it was another application?

Okay, I'll enter the parameters. When I schedule disk clean up & under task
I have cleanmgr.exe, do I enter /sagerun:## right after cleanmgr.exe like
this: c\windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe /sageset:100 where there is a space
between .exe and /. Do I have to do anything with Start>Run? The links you
provided indicated I do.

Also, would you know why I do not get replies in my e-mail even though I
check the box to receive them?

Thanks for all your help so far.

John,

For example, in Scheduled Tasks, you could run the following command after
you run the cleanmgr /sageset:11 command:

cleanmgr /sagerun:11

cleanmgr /sagerun:## or cleanmgr /sageset:## where ## is any two digit
number.

The /sageset switch numbers correspond to the /sagerun switch numbers. You
could theoretically set up 99 different sets. Where each set would have
different options checked on what you wanted to clean.

You can test your setup by typing or pasting this command into Start | Run

cleanmgr /sageset:11

and click OK. Check all of the items that want to clean and click OK.

Then type or paste cleanmgr /sagerun:11 into Start | Run and click OK.
You can then watch Disk Cleanup run and clean whatever you had checked. That
way when you schedule it you will know that it will do want you want it to
do.
