Task Scheduler Engine won't end

I'm using Vista Home Premium. Whenever I attempt to shutdown or logout this
message appears:

"The following programs are still running. TaskEng - Task Scheduler Engine
Process. Task Scheduler is executing shutdown tasks, and stopping tasks that
are already running."

I am unable to continue without selecting the option to shutdown or
something similar. I don' t recall the exact option.

Go to Control Panel (classic) Administrative Tools, then Event Viewer
and check if Windows is having a hissy fit over some running process
or application. It may give a clue why it is getting stuck.

Thanks for the hint Adam. Every Task Scheduler event listed, and there are
many, is described as "Compatibility module failed to start". Any ideas how
to fix the problem?
