task receiving reported error (0x80004005) the operation failed

I started receiving this error a few weeks ago. I have completley
disabled my symantec antivirus and ran detect and repair multiple
times. When I check my pop3 mail (the only account I have) I get the
following error.

task receiving reported error (0x80004005) the operation failed

I can directly telnet to port 110 of my pop3 server.

Any help is gretatly appreciated. I would love to start using outlook
again.
