Dan

I'm operating Windows XP Home, and have had this problem
for quite some time. This is the first time it's occured
to post it here, thougth. My task manager will not
open. Ctrl-atl-del has no effect, nor does attempting to
start it from the taskbar. Can anyone make a suggestion
as to what I can do?

Could this be your problem?

I Ctrl+Alt+Del and select task manager. Task manager
appears for a second or two, then closes. This is the
only application with the problem. Everything else in my
Ctrl+alt+Del menu works great. Just task manager closes
automaticall. Whats wrong? Can this be fixed avoiding
formating and reinstalling windows?

This behavior can be caused by a virus. One of three:

Enable the Task Manager (Line 51)

If none of the above helps: Run this small application and post the log
file here. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/StartupTracker3.zip

I've looked through all of this, and none of it seems to
be the problem. Thanks for responding, though. Anyone
else have any ideas?

To obtain the XP Emergency Utilities application, you'll have to go to
www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Create Emergency Copies of Critical XP
System Utilities.

Hmm... I downloaded and ran the Emergency Utilities
application, and it only copied my regedit and msconfig,
it doesn't touch the taskman application. Nothing seems
to be able to fix this situation... HELP!

Dan, open Explorer and go to the Windows folder. Locate Taskmgr.exe and
right click it, select Rename and rename it TaskMgr1.exe
