You forgot to add microsoft.public.windowsxp.perform_maintain and
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general to your crosspost.

Task Manager Shut Down disabled

On the Task Manager Menu Bar, there are: File, Options, View, Shut Down and
Help.

The Shut Down menu contains:
* Stand By
* Hibernate
* Turn Off
* Restart
* Log Off (User Name)
* Switch User

Some of the above items may be unavailable (grayed out) depending on Group
Policies, et cetera.

For example.

NoClose removes access to Stand By, Hibernate, Turn Off, Restart and Log
Off (User Name) from the Shut Down menu in Task Manager, but leaves the
menu.

If using Classic Logon the Task Manager will not show the Shut Down menu.

To verify what type of Logon you are using, go to the Control Panel | User
Accounts | Change the way users log on or off. If the Welcome Screen is not
checked then you are using the Classic Logon, there for no Shut down menu
will not be present for the Task Manager.

I have no idea if any of the above changes if on a domain.
<quote>

Turn the Welcome screen on...
1. In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
2. Click Change the way users log on or off.
3. Click the Use the Welcome screen to place a check mark in the check box.
4. Click OK.

SYMPTOMS
On a computer where the Friendly User Interface (Welcome Screen) option is
set, if you join the computer to a domain and then restart the computer, you
see the classic Windows logon screen instead of the "friendly" welcome
screen.

CAUSE
This issue occurs because the Friendly User Interface (Welcome Screen)
option is available only on a stand-alone computer or in a workgroup.
Logging on to a domain structure turns off this option.

STATUS
This behavior is by design.

To turn the Welcome screen on or off
You must have a computer administrator account on a computer that is a
member of a workgroup or is a stand-alone computer to turn on or turn off
the Use the Welcome screen feature. Logging on at the Welcome screen is not
available on computers that are members of a network domain.

Very strange Wesley that you noticed his e-mail address because yours is
COMCAST & anyone who deals with SPAM such as I do know COMCAST is one of the
bigger SPAM gang domains.

I report SPAM from COMCAST each day for 100's of different users to 6 or
more SPAM databases for real time blocking :)

Last reported SPAM to COMCAST (71.230.53.104) was a few seconds before this

No tak moze byc polski :)
Nie moge wlaczyc ekranu powitalnego, gdzie jest podany uzytkownik,
ktory ma sie logowac i recznie wpisuje sie tylko haslo.
Teraz mam okienko gdzie wpisuje sie uzytkownika i haslo.
Nie wiem dlaczego - ale gdzies na google czytalem ze moze byc to
przyczyna braku opcji w menedzerze zadan (zamknij).
Zeby bylo smiesznie, zmieniam sposob logowania w panelu sterowania -
konta u¿ytkownikow, zmiany nie daja efektu. po wejsciu powtornie do
opcji konta uzytkownikow nie ma nic zaznaczone. wyglada, jakby cos
blokowalo zmiane sposobu logowania.
jak cos bedziesz wiedziec to czekam na info :).

Folks who doesnt understand polish ;D, It seems like something is
blocking change the way of login in. I read somewhere on google that
is option is responsible for disappearing shutdown menu in task
manager.
If you know something please hit me :)

P.S.
Wesley
I think when you look on your task manager window (xp of course) it
willl look the same as mine, just language is different ;)

technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

I think this is great, it has much useful options.
Try it and see it for your own eyes ;D

Thank you for your time

Hi Mati

Glad you've found a solution :)

But I think the answer to your original question is, you only get the
Shut Down menu on Task Manager if you're using the Welcome screen to log
on.

Might you have turned the Welcome Screen off recently, perhaps?

Well, Ive turned this option off, and now I can't turn it on :/
I dont know whats going on. Im marking in the user accounts window ->
change the way of login in ... = USE WELCOME SCREEN.
Nothing is marked when I open the same window 5 seconds later :/
Thats why I guess something blocks changing this option.
If you get to know something - let me know

Mati
