Task Manager Tasks missing

Hi all,
Apparently at some point when I was doing some un-and-reinstalling of Norton
products (SystemWorks & NIS), ALL the tasks listed in my task manager
disappeared. I have a number of recent backups so in theory I could restore
my task manager list IF I could figure how where the system keeps that
information. All my searchs, knowledgbase and other, have given me no hint.

I had several items in the list of the task manager and while I could
eventually rebuild it, I'm hoping there is restorative method. Thanks.

I am guessing that the Task Manager Menu Bar and Tabs Are Not Visible.

Double click anywhere on the Task Manager border to bring the menu bar and
tabs back. Do it again to hide them again. Or not. ;-)

Sorry Wesley, your guess is completely wrong. The task manager menu bar and
the whole nine yards are quite visible. And I've been adding items to the
list and they are working.

Going to my original comments, at some point ALL the tasks in the task
manager vanished. The task manager itself seems to be fine and dandy. I'd
just like to find a way to recover the list I used to have.

Richard,

You see *nothing* under Applications or Processes?

If you have XP Pro, open a command prompt...
Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
Type the following line and hit your Enter key...

tasklist /svc

This will show the running processes.

Okay, I see the problem and it's my fault. I used the incorrect title for the
window I was asking about. It is NOT the task manager that I have a problem
but the window entitled "Scheduled Tasks." I was thinking since it managed
the scheduling of the task that it was call the task manager and I know
better than that. I'm very sorry for the confusion. If you take every place
where I was talking about task manager and change the word to "task
scheduler" or "scheduled tasks" or whatever it is called, I think we will be
on the same track.

Now that I have my wording corrected, let me try one more time. All the
scheduled tasks of the scheduled tasks window disappeared. Not just the ones
having to do with Norton but everything. Now I think the most effiecent
procedure would be to find out where this information is kept, do a recovery
of that file or files and then use it to rebuild the scheduled tasks list.
Now can you assist me?

Richard,

Start button\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Scheduled Tasks should open
the Scheduled Tasks folder. That's what's empty, right? The Scheduled
Tasks folder. All of your .job files are gone. Is Add Scheduled Task still
there?

Files that have the extension .job are Task Scheduler Tasks.

Do a Search on your machine for *.job

What is the pharse I am looking for? You are an officer and a gentleman?
Something like that. I was able to recover the missing .job files from a
backup. It makes a lot of difference when I give you the correct program
name! Thank you very much. This is one problem I can scratch off my list.

Hi Richard,
What is the phrase I am looking for? You are an officer and a gentleman?

Gentleman and scoundrel... I mean scholar.

Keep having fun. ;-)
