When I go to Windows Task Manager, then Processes, the first file is 40.exe.
(Actually, there is a wavy line before 40, but I didn't know how to show
it.) The memory usage is going up from 30,000k and is now 154,316. It keeps
going up. I was going to delete it, but I'm just shutting the machine off
instead. Any idea what that was and if I should have deleted it?

Bill,

That may have been part of a spyware/adware application that was running or
installing. You may wish to visit:

FileResearchCenter.com
http://www.fileresearchcenter.com

Select the free Help/Scan that will show you what is running on your
computer. The File Research Center shows both good and bad processes and
startup items and may provide a clue to what is happening on your computer.
