Task Manager disappear

I am using windows 2000 professional. I login as a administrator and when I
open the Windows Task Manager trying to see which
application is running. The task manager window shows up for few seconds and
close by itself. I have tried to reboot the computer and open the task
manager again and same thing happened.
Also, same thing happened to Msconfig window. It shows up and closes by
itself.
But other windows applications run normally .
Can any one tell me what's wrong ?
