"The server name you entered cannot be found on the network. It might
be down temporarily. Please verify that you are online and that the
server name is correct."
This message started showing up with *no* system changes. Cannot send
or receive e-mail (Outllook and Outlook Express) or access the
Internet. Using Verizon DSL. Only one computer. Connected to modem
using Linksys router, which serves as the firewall. Have Norton
Anti-Virus installed, but its e-mail scanning feaures have been
temporarly disabled for diagnostic purposes.
Called Verizon. Went through all account settings. They blamed
Norton, which now has most features disabled, short of uninstalling.
They still say Norton. Verizon did a line check, OK.
A Microsoft site lists the following possible causes:
1. Incorrect Account Settings
2.Misconfiguration of Personal Firewall.
3. Antivirus sofware
4. Bad modem
5. Max transmission Unit
6. Outlook Express damaged
7. User profile in Outlook damaged
8. An e-mail item on the POP server is damaged
Which of these do you think is most likely? Verizon claims it's
not them. Please note that, when I will be working on the affected
computer (later today) I have no way to contact the Internet.
Help much appreciated.

My guess is that if you can't access the internet, you're not going to be
able to pull any email so your question is probably not really an Outlook
question. You need to verify your connection to the internet first before you
can worry about Outlook.
