Task Bar's Gone to top of screen

I have XP installed on my machine which has been operating without any major
problems for years.
Suddenly, without warning, the task bar moved from the bottom of the screen
to the top. I must have inadvertently pressed some unknown key.
"Help" states that it can be placed top, bottom, left or right but blowed if
I can find how that is done.
I would just like to move it back to its "rightful" place at the bottom of
the screen and have tried everything I can think of to do so ... with no
success.
Can someone tell me what I should do

Thanks in anticipation

Thanks Peter but that doesnt work!
The top of the task bar appears, in fact is, anchored to the top of the
screen. Dragging the bar down with the mouse merely brings the bottom of the
bar down so the task bar ends up as thick as about half the screen. ( the
bottom of the task bar cannot be dragged down past about the halfway of the
screen). Can I "unanchor" the top of the task bar before dragging down ?

Cheers

If you can do that, the taskbar's not locked so you should be able to move
it. Rather than the edge, grab the *body* of the taskbar (a blank part, not
a running app's entry) and drag it back down. Nothing might seem to happen
right away, but wait till you get nearer the bottom/an edge of the screen -
it'll snap into place.

Then right-click an empty part of the taskbar and left-click on "Lock the
Taskbar" to stop this happening again.

I have just manged to do that trick for you. Right click on an empty space on
the taskbar - HOLD the button in the down position and drag it down towards the
middle of the screen - suddenly you will see the bar jump down into the bottom
of the screen - then let go the right mouse button. If you want to lock the bar,
right click again and choose the lock choice - a tick will show that you have
locked the bar in position.

Thanks Olórin
You are a genius!!! When previously nothing happened during the dragging
process I quickly went to trying something else. As you suggested when I
dragged then waited a while the taskbar snapped into place immediately so I
quickly locked it into place and, so far, everything is OK

You're welcome, and thanks for posting back with the outcome.
