Hi!
Lately I have noticed something that seems to be loading that I had not
previously seen.
When I restart my computer everything loads and runs ok but after about 10
seconds I notice a small square blue & white icon flash right next to the
start button in the lower task bar.can someone throw some light on this or is
it nothing to worry about thanks in advance

BTW this is a awsome newsgroup and a big thank you to all who contribute.

It seems to be a kind of "quick launch" icon (if it's right next to the
Start button).
Make sure you don't have any spyware or unwanted program installed. If not,
it's probably not important.

Bye !

I do have "spysweeper" and "adaware" installed but they are not loaded at
startup (or at least they arent supposed to be :-) would they show up in
processes if they were loaded?

Yes, they would. But I mean : just make sure you don't have any spyware
running, using Ad-Aware for example. If not, I suppose your little icon is
not dangerous; try to find an unexpected process to which you could link the
unknown icon!

Hi,

This is the Quick Launch Area and have never heard of an icon appearing
after 10 seconds, much less flashing. Besides that, all QL items, can be
hovered over to read the tag line, can be right clicked for properties and
can be deleted.

If per chance your Taskbar is not in proper order and this is indeed
stemming from the Notification Area:

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.

Or...remove the runkeys from here: Start/Run/Regedit

Good luck and please keep us posted! Am very curious about this one. :o)
