A few days ago almost all of the icons in my task bar vanished. I am
operating with Windows XP Home that has all the updates up to and including
this month's security patch. Is there some way I can restore them? If so how
do I do it?
Thanks
Mike

Right click on the taskbar and click properties. Under "Taskbar appearance"
check the box next to "show quick launch". Hope it is that simple :)

If the missing icons were the "QuickLaunch" icons, right-click the taskbar, Toolbars, and make
sure there's a check alongside QuickLaunch. Otherwise...

Systray Icons Missing
The system tray (also called notification area) is the icon strip normally located near the
right end of the task bar, next to the clock.

First, you could try System Restore and go back one or two settings
(assuming you don't have a new set of Windows updates that would be
deleted). That may take care of the problem.

If that doesn't work, you can customize task bar. It sounds like this was
somehow change, but you can always re-set it. Right-click the task bar and
*uncheck* lock the taskbar. Then go to Control Panel > Taskbar and Start
Memory > and select "customize" on the Taskbar tab. At that point, you can
select those items that you always want to appear, those that should only
appear when active, etc. Click on "ok." Then be sure to right-click the
taskbar and *check* lock the taskbar again.
