Hi,

On my XP-Pro system my task bar no longer displays when I
login under any account. Prior to this happening I
received an error message about the system register being
restore to a previous version. I can login but have no
desktop icons or start button. I can bring up the task
manager and run cmd, notepad, etc. I can not run system
restore. I have tried restoring to a last know good
configuration with no results. Does anynone know how I can
get my task bar/Desktop back?

Thanks

Bruce

Hi Bruce

I'd try it in safe mode first to see if the same thing happens. To get to safe mode, use the F8 key on startup, just before the Windows XP Professional logo screen comes up. If you are able to get your taskbar and icons in safe mode with no problem, restart the computer into normal mode and check your processes in task manager for something called sysu.exe. If this is in the processes, end the process and that will fix the problem temporarily. The file is a component of adware/spyware

If this does not appear in the processes, please try using article 316434 in the Microsoft knoweldge base for clean boot troubleshooting. I have run into this problem many times and this has been the most successful way at fixing it

Hope this helps.
