Target Designer cannot log on to component database

All of a sudden, after the weekend, when we return back to the lab, the
target design is not able to connect to component database.

It pops up a message telling this truth, and after I click on "OK", target
designer is closed automatically.

I cannot start component database manager and component designer, either,
simply perhaps for the same reason, I think.

Any idea I can switch this back, without having to reinstall everything
(from SP1, to SP2, to FP2007, and then to SP3)?

Thanks in advance.

A couple of things to check:

Have you lost your network connection? That will cause problems with
XPe development.

Is the MSSQL server running? Look in the system try and make sure it
has a green arrow on it, not a red square. If it has a red square, try
right clicking on it and selecting "MSSQLServer - Start".

Mike,

I am using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, and I never see this tray icon
ever. (With the version bundled with XPe installation CD, it does show up
there. I do not have a clue why this is not happening with my SQL Server
2005).

Anyway, since the time I finished the tool installation, everything is fine.
It just stopped working this morning, and gave me a fright with that
message.

I checked the system service, SQL server is up and running.

When I tried to open up Component Designer, it does not let me in, either.
But this time, it told me that the database is being used by another process
exclusively. It looks like if I could stop this process, I could retrieve
the handle of database

Any idea then?

Just plug in your network cable to a hub/switch. I am guessing before you left for the weekend, your Network Connection was 'connected'. Just connect it back and try?
