Tape catalog issue

I am trying to restore from an 8mm tape I backed up last
year. I have since reloaded so the catalog is gone. At
present, I cannot get backup to recognize the tape drive
although it is seen from a system standpoint. Both the
'backup' and 'restore' portions of backup do not offer a
tape drive as an option. Any ideas?

Bruce, it has been a long time since I used tape but I believe that the
catalog is required because that is where the positions are place. It is
like a contents page in a book. Without the catalog the software won't know
where to look.

I had issues with my 5gb tape back up so I switched to CD's.
