Tape Backup RESTORE Issues Win2000

RON

I am trying to restore files from a tape backup in
Windows 2000 which were created using either another 2000
or XP machine.

The restore utility included with 2000 (Ntbackup.exe)
does not seem to recognize the tape drive, when I go to
restore files and try to select the source for restore
(travan) it is greyed out infact all options are greyed
out and will not allow me to check the (travan) box.

Other 3rd party backup utilities which I have tried
recognize the drive and try to restore the tape but I
keep getting errors that the format in which it was
written can not be recognized and that I should use the
utility that did the backup in the first place
(Ntbackup.exe)

I have looked at device manager and there are no issues
with the device and it seems to be working ok.

Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks

You can't use another backup program to restore files backed up with
NTBackup, so that's normal behavior. Go into Removeable Storage Manager and
see if the tape drive is showing up there (without a red X).
