Tape backup does not accept tapes

Bo Chen

I have Windows 2000 server sp4. Veritas Backup Exec v.9
was installed for test and has been removed. Now the we
can not backup using tape. The following is the message we
got:

There is no unused media with the selected type.
Add unused media or click cancel to select another type.
NOTE: It may take up to 60 seconds for Removable Storage
to recognize new media.

The following is the contents of Q269060 from MS Knowledge
base. MS has the solution. How can I get the fix?
Please help me.

Thanks.
Bo

There is no response even if you wait a long time. At the
same time, if you click Inject in Removable Storage, the
tape is ejected.
CAUSE
The 4mmdat.sys driver sends a SCSI Request Block (SRB)
with a data length of 0x18, but the Aic78xx.sys driver
returns a result with a length of 0x16 bytes. Therefore,
4mmdat.sys may return the status as
TAPE_STATUS_REQUIRES_CLEANING, which prevents Removable
Storage from getting the tape.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is
only intended to correct the problem that is described in
this article. Apply it only to computers that are
experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive
additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely
affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you
wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains
this fix.
